What a fantastic performance from our super 16s tonight against a very well-organized Lifford side.
After going a goal down early, the team showed real character and rallied back with some lovely football. Zak O’Shea grabbed the equalizer before Conor Murphy tapped home from an Aidan Griffin ball across the box. Lucas Danaher then made it 3 with a powerful run and superb finish into the top corner.
Aidan Griffin added a 4th from the penalty spot after being brought down, and Zak O’Shea bagged his second of the game with a neat finish following some great build-up play.
Lifford struck back with two quick goals to make things a little edgy, but Conor Murphy stepped up and sealed the win from the spot after he was taken down in the box.
The midfield duo of Lucas Danaher and Rion Cotter controlled the tempo brilliantly, with Rion unlucky not to get on the scoresheet after hitting the crossbar and post three times. At the back, Shane Whelan and Mikey Sexton were rock solid throughout.
A massive credit goes to all 18 players who travelled everyone put in a great shift and worked hard for the result.
We now look forward to the Cup on Sunday away to Shannon Town, hoping to carry this momentum into another big performance.
