Our A team secured 3rd position in the league after a determined 3-0 win over our visitors from Ennis this evening. After a tense and tight opening 10 minutes Tymur Mikaelian capitalised on a mix up between the Avenue goalie and centre back to tap the ball into the empty net. Tymur getting his reward for being relentless in his pursuit of the ball. Both teams had chances but the score remained 1-0 at the break.

The second half saw our boys grab the game by the scruff of the neck. A high press as well as sheer doggedness kept the Avenue players under pressure while on the ball and we won the ball back on countless occasions. We got our deserved second goal when Adam Roche struck a speculative shot from outside the box which proved too hot for the keeper to handle.

Avenue did create some more chances and even hit the crossbar but the game finished as a contest after some great pressure from Adam again saw him win the ball back near the end line, he then beat his man and rifled the ball into the top of the net from a seemingly impossible angle. Adam was denied a hat trick shortly after when he hit the post after a lovely through ball from TJ Lillis.

So all in all a deserved win and a brilliant overall team performance tonight against opposition who we will face twice again over the next few weeks in the shield final and the national cup. Hopefully our boys will be able to carry on in those games from where they finished tonight.
