U17s Moneypoin AFC vs Ennis Town 4-0
Our U17s travelled to Ennis to face Ennis Town in the first fixture of the CDSL season. With a number of players unavailable, we had just 11 lads on the day, so we knew it was going to be a tough test. But this group showed real heart, producing some fantastic football on a difficult pitch.
We hit the crossbar twice and created numerous chances in the first half, but couldn’t find the breakthrough. Ennis Town upped their game after the restart and had opportunities of their own, but we stayed composed.
The deadlock was finally broken by Joe Lernihan with a neat finish. Daniel Keena added a composed second before Joe grabbed his brace after brilliant work from Conor Murphy. Daniel then killed the game off with his second and our fourth, sealing the win.
Huge credit to the players for a performance like that in the first game of the season and after only one training session together.
Defensively, Cian Burke kept a well-earned clean sheet with some solid saves and excellent distribution.
Our back four were rock-solid: the partnership of Shane Whelan and Lucas Danaher marshalled the line superbly, while full-backs Eoin Lucas and Darragh Coleman worked tirelessly up and down the flanks.
Midfield was beautifully controlled by the energy and skill of Rion Cotter and Aiden Griffin, with Conor Murphy and Daniel Keena supplying creativity, precise passing and goals Daniel finishing with two, both assisted by Conor.
Up top, Joe Lernihan, in a makeshift role, battled brilliantly and caused constant problems for the Ennis defence, deservedly netting two well-taken goals.
Ruairi Young also put in a huge shift, showing lovely touches and was unlucky not to score in the first half.
Absolutely delighted for the lads who kept going even when the legs were heavy.
