⚽ U17s Back to Winning Ways! ⚽

Our U17s returned to winning form today with a fantastic 4–1 victory over a very good Bridge Utd side, played in difficult underfoot conditions.

The lads took the lead when Daniel Keena, coolly converted from the penalty spot after Conor Mac was brought down in the box. After a series of corners, the pressure told again as we doubled our advantage through an own goal following a clever flick from Ruairi Young.

There were chances at both ends in the first half, with Bridge pushing hard, but it remained 2–0 at the break.

Bridge started the second half strongly and were awarded a penalty. Cian Burke made an excellent save, but couldn’t prevent the rebound as they pulled one back. Both sides continued to play neat football despite the pitch cutting up badly.

We responded well, and Conor Mac added a third after some superb midfield play. Two dubious offside decisions made the final 15 minutes tense as Bridge pushed forward, but stern defending and discipline from the back four saw the lads through.

The midfield was marshalled brilliantly by Aiden Griffin and Dan Keena, with U15 debutant Liam Whelan showing some lovely footwork and looking completely at home at this level. An injury to Shane Whelan forced a reshuffle, with Conor Murphy slotting into centre-half alongside Lucas Danaher, and both were rock solid.

To cap it all off, Joe Lernihan added a fourth to seal the points for the lads, who delivered another brilliant performance despite a thin squad.

A huge well done to the entire team 👏
Everyone at Moneypoint AFC are very proud of your performance ⚽️

After the game, Thomas Whelan kindly presented the team with a new set of away jerseys – a fantastic gesture. Thank You Thomas, very much appreciated.
