Full Time: Fern Celtic 0β3 Moneypoint AFC
The day finally arrived as we travelled away to Fern Celtic in very warm conditions. With only nine players available, we called on three U11 girls β Rachel, Γine and Kate β and they certainly didn't look out of place.
We started the game brightly, playing some excellent football, while Fern Celtic looked dangerous on the break. Despite creating several chances, including opportunities for the ever-skilful Fiadh, the breakthrough wouldn't come. A reshuffle in defence and midfield saw every player step up with solid, energetic performances, and the teams went into the break level at 0-0.
The second half saw our girls move up another level. Powerful driving runs from Sophia, the tireless Kyra, and the hardworking Charlie helped us dominate the midfield. Our U11 girls fitted in superbly, with Kate unlucky not to score after some brilliant skill, Rachel working tirelessly on the wing, and Γine putting in a fantastic shift for the team.
The breakthrough finally arrived when Sophia scored directly from a free kick, a goal that was richly deserved after her outstanding performances all season. Our captain, Ruth, then doubled the lead with a superb turn and finish before the ever-dangerous Emma wrapped up the victory with a fine strike to secure the girls' first win of the season.
At the back, CoraLilly, Sarah, and Ella Mai who travelled from Galway to the game, now thats dedication! were outstanding, while our goalie Lauren was calm, confident, and commanding in goal throughout.
This was a win that everyone had been waiting for, and the second-half performance was full of confidence, communication, positional awareness, and some excellent one-touch football. Most importantly, the girls showed fantastic teamwork, supported one another from start to finish, and represented Moneypoint AFC with pride and respect.
A huge credit to Fern Celtic, who were dangerous throughout, played some lovely football, and never gave up.
Finally, thank you to all of the parents for travelling and supporting the team, and a special thank you to our U11 girls β Rachel, Γine and Kate β you were absolutely brilliant. We are incredibly proud of every single one of you. Well done, girls!
