We are so proud of these boys!
Avenue away is always a tough fixture for any team, and it was made even more difficult before kick-off as we travelled without a recognised goalkeeper. Thankfully, Jack W stepped up to take the gloves, showing great commitment to the team.
We got off to the worst possible start, conceding inside the opening minute after Avenue capitalised on a short back pass to slot home the opener. They added two more goals in the 8th and 13th minutes to take a commanding lead into the break.
Despite the scoreline, the lads showed a fantastic attitude during the half-time team talk. A few changes were made, with the aim of playing more attacking football in the second half. Unfortunately, Avenue struck again in the 2nd and 5th minutes after the restart.
The scoreline didn't tell the full story, however. The lads battled brilliantly throughout the second half and were the better side for long periods. It was individual mistakes that proved costly, but the effort, determination and character shown by every player right until the final whistle was outstanding.
Despite distractions from the opposite sideline for much of the game, our players remained focused, disciplined and continued to play the game in the right spirit. That composure says a lot about this group, and they should be incredibly proud of how they conducted themselves.
One thing this team has shown all season is a never-give-up attitude. Their commitment, resilience and willingness to keep fighting for each other is something we, as coaches, are extremely proud of.
