League leaders Corofin were this evening’s opponents, and despite missing some of our regular starters through holidays and sickness, the rest of the lads certainly didn’t make it look like we were short-handed.

Some players were asked to step into positions they weren’t familiar with, and every single one of them stood up to the challenge. With positions up for grabs ahead of this weekend’s Cup Final, they certainly gave the management team plenty to think about.

The lads fought tooth and nail for every ball and gave absolutely everything from start to finish.

We created a couple of chances early on and were unlucky not to take the lead, with Adam O’Brien rattling the crossbar with a fantastic free kick.

Corofin opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a lovely through ball over the heads of our centre-backs, followed by a composed finish into the corner.

They added a second just three minutes into the second half and then a third five minutes later.

But this group never gives up. 💪

In the 50th minute, Fayez closed down the Corofin centre-backs and won possession, only to be fouled as he went through on goal. Penalty!

Fayez stepped up himself and calmly slotted it into the side netting. ⚽👏

Unfortunately, we conceded again soon after, but the lads kept battling, kept pushing and kept looking for more goals.

On the hour mark, we won a corner and quick-thinking Thomas Hogan found Calum Maloney free on the edge of the box. Calum’s shot took a deflection and found the back of the net. ⚽🔥

The lads deserve huge praise after tonight’s hard-fought battle in the rain. Every one of them gave 110% and showed exactly what this team is made of.

They should take enormous confidence from tonight. Knowing that we will have a full-strength squad available on Sunday, there is no reason why these so-called underdogs can’t go out there and snatch a victory in the Cup Final. 🏆💙
